Surely we aren't that stupid

  • Silicon.com: ‘The UK Cabinet Office has been forced to pull one of the public service videos it published on YouTube due to copyright violation.’
  • Youtube: ‘This video has been removed at the request of copyright owner COI Television because its content was used without permission.’
  • COI: ‘COI’s Chief Executive reports to the Minister for the Cabinet Office.’

  1. Er, between you and me… ‘stupid’ is currently my odds-on favourite. It’s one of those things it’s easy to forget; and I’m sure ‘YouTube rights’ weren’t exactly discussed in the course of sourcing the footage. But seriously, if you’re going to do something as (potentially) high-profile as this, with inevitable scrutiny, you’d think they would have checked. It doesn’t ultimately say a lot for transformational government.
