A great piece of work as a guide to best practice, something that Twittering organisations have been crying out for. The fact that the template has been made available to all is also great new, you havent heard the last of this Twitter doc.

I thought the guidelines were great. Lengthy? Definitely. Heavy-handed? Maybe. But until you've worked in the public sector - or possibly enterprise - you've no idea how hard it is to get people to accept that social media is a. useful and b. not a massive risk. I've been writing similar proposals and guidelines at my own company - whereas in my last job, we did pretty much everything on the fly and experimented with trends as they emerged. Totally agree that saying 'this is so cool...!' gets you precisely nowhere. Persuasion is a big part of the job.

I loved Tom Watson on the radio suggesting it should be shorter :-)

The more who start using T, the more will find it useful, of course.

Oh, and as if by magic - <a href="http://news.sky.com/skynews/Home/Technology/Government-Publishes-Twitter-Guidelines-For-Ministers-Web-Geek-Writes-Blueprint-For-Departments/Article/200907415347707?lpos=Technology_First_Home_Article_Teaser_Region_8&lid=ARTICLE_15347707_Government_Publishes_Twitter_Guidelines_For_Ministers%3A_Web_Geek_Writes_Blueprint_For_Departments" rel="nofollow">here's Sky News weighing in</a>., spotting the f-word angle (which at least confirms they read Neil's blog piece). And yes, it looks like they'll be covering it in their 'SkyNews.com' show at 7pm.

Honestly, the coverage is ridiculous. No publicity is bad publicity I say. Kudos to Neil.

The way the story sat there for a while and then suddenly took off when one journalist noticed is very similar to the Dave Carroll / United Airlines story, which was news in the US for 2 1/2 weeks before one major news source in Britain noticed and then everyone is talking about it (see more details in my post at http://www.markpack.org.uk/dave-carroll-united-airlines/ ).
