Don't be too hard on them, Andrew; this notion of 'personal blogging under a corporate banner' is new territory, and I think it's fair enough if it takes time for people (and the corporation itself) to get comfortable.

I don't think it would be appropriate for *very* personal stuff to appear on a dfid.gov.uk blog; not least, it must be noted, for reasons of personal safety and security. You'll have noted that several people haven't used their full names; and we've had to drop plans to include certain people altogether (very reluctantly).

I was hoping for more from this. The blog looks great, but I can't help feeling that the bloggers themselves are feeling somewhat inhibited by the multiple levels of authorisation through which their posts are filtered. Instead of reading like true tales from the front line, which is what I'd hoped for, it all feels rather like the sort of material that would appear in DFID's annual report, doesn't it? There's certainly something missing here.

[...] Some of the usual suspects have been involved in its gestation. Usual suspects not because they have some kind of monopoly over government social media projects (far from it), but usual because they are all very good at what they do. So well done to them (again).
